Sometimes You Have to Slow Down to Move Forward

October has arrived, and already we're seeing signs that the holidays are approaching. Decorations are appearing in stores, calendars are filling up, and suddenly the end of the year doesn't seem so far away.

For some, this time of year brings a sense of urgency. Things to finish. Goals to accomplish. Decisions to make before another year comes to a close.

But what if we don't have to figure everything out right now?

Sometimes, moving forward requires us to slow down.

When we're trying to figure out what's next, our natural response is often to do something. Make a decision. Create a plan. Take action.

As a coach, I believe in taking action. But I also believe that meaningful action begins with clarity.

And clarity doesn't always come when we're constantly moving.

I've learned from my own experiences that sometimes the most productive thing we can do is give ourselves space to think. Not every question needs an immediate answer, and not every moment of uncertainty requires a decision.

Think about it. How often has an idea come to you while taking a walk, sitting quietly, or doing something completely unrelated to what you've been trying to figure out?

Sometimes, when we stop searching so hard for the answer, we create room for a different perspective.

The pause is part of the process.

As we move through these final months of the year, consider giving yourself permission to slow down. Take a walk. Spend a little time journaling. Say no to something that doesn't require your attention. Or simply enjoy a quiet moment without feeling the need to fill it.

You don't have to have everything figured out before the year ends.

There will be a time to plan, make decisions, and take action. But perhaps right now, what you need most is a little space to hear yourself think.

Because sometimes, slowing down is exactly what helps us move forward.
